The Tamron 70-180mm F/2.8 Di III VC VXD G2 for Sony E Mount (Model A065S) is the 2nd-generation version of the 70 -180, and is a compact, short telephoto zoom lens for Sony mirrorless cameras. It is one of the smallest and lightest f2.8 full-frame compatible fast-aperture telephoto zoom lenses equipped with Tamron's Vibration Compensation optical image stabilisation system. Takes 67mm filter size.
The new 70-180mm F/2.8 Di III VC VXD G2 model keeps its fast F2.8 aperture and maintains 180mm at the telephoto end while achieving the world’s smallest size (Length of 156.5mm) and lightest (855g weight) for its class. Perfect for travel, the optical design has been completely redesigned. The precision combination of special glass including an XLD 2 and LD 3 lens elements to achieve the best optical performance throughout the entire zoom range.
Fast and precise AF and improved tracking performance from Tamron's VXD4 AF drive linear motor focus mechanism, combines class-leading speed and precision, for fast and accurate focusing on a wide range of subjects. Enhance tracking of moving subjects whilst shooting still images or video. The 70-180mm F2.8 G2 is also equipped with Tamron's VC5 mechanism to minimise camera shake that tends to occur when shooting at the telephoto end, during close focusing, or when shooting in low-light conditions, enabling sharp results.
Close shooting has been much improved, the 1st-generation model only allowed close focus with manual focusing, but this can be automatically achieved with the G2 using autofocus. Furthermore the new lens shortens the Minimum Object Distance down to 0.3m at the 70mm zoom setting for a working distance of 12cm (4.7in) with maximum magnification ratio of 1:2.6 for improved close up work.
The 70-180mm F2.8 G2 is compatible with the TAMRON Lens Utility software. The TAMRON Lens Utility lets users change lens settings, assign camera body functions, and update firmware. Users can customise functions for various still photography and videography shooting styles, for a more personalised and fulfilling shooting experience.
