The Sigma 500mm f/4 DG OS HSM Sport Series Lens is a hyper-telephoto prime lens that offers a range of advanced features and professional functions. The flagship lens of the Sigma sports line-up boasts a rapid, quiet Hyper-Sonic AF Motor so you can track fast action. Combined with a fast f/4 aperture and optical stabilisation system with up to 4-stops of shutter speed, the lens can capture the most challenging shots. With a sturdy dust and splash proof construction the lens can shoot the most demanding outdoor situations.
Full Frame 500mm Super Telephoto Lens
The 500mm focal length of the Sport Series lens allows professional photographers to clearly capture the fine details of distant subjects. Because of it’s incredible telephoto abilities it is well suited for nature, animal, and sports style shooting.
Bright F/4 Aperture with 9-Blade Diaphragm
The fast f/4 maximum aperture on a lens of this focal length means you can make the most of faster shutter speeds, giving you more chances to freeze fast motion. The soft bokeh in the out of focus areas of the images is created by 9 rounded aperture blades that produce dreamy smooth results in all the right places.
Intelligent Optical Image Stabilisation System
The lens’s intelligent optical stabilisation can compensate for up to 4 stops of shutter speed giving the flexibility to create sharp images while shooting handheld. As well as the general use stabilisation mode, the lens also features a panning mode that corrects automatically on one axis while the shot is moving, perfect for sports shooters who want stabilisation for creative images.
Hyper Sonic Motor for Quick Autofocus
The integrated Hyper Sonic Motor uses an all new autofocus algorithm delivers quick and smooth autofocusing abilities that allow you to capture accurately focused action shots. As well as lightning-fast AF the lens also features a manual override (MO) mode that give you the ability to take control of your focus at any time by simply rotating the ring.
Multiple Autofocus Options
A dedicated autofocus switch provides quick access between the AF, MF and MO focus modes while the range selector switch allows you to restrict the distance the lens will try to find focus in. You can select 10m-infinity, 3.5-10m or the full range depending on where your subject is.
16 elements in 11 Groups
Sigma are well known for their excellent optical technology and the 500mm f/4 Sport is no exception with 16 high quality lens elements arranged in 11 groups. The lens uses a combination of special optics to deliver imagery with minimised aberrations, a special low dispersion (SLD) element combined with two “F” low dispersion (FLD) elements ensure accurate colours and images with high end clarity and contrast.
Super Multi-Layer Coating
Designed to reduce lens flare and image ghosting the lens elements are treated with Sigma’s own Super Multi-Later Coating that ensures you capture clean, clear shots even in backlit conditions.
Customisable Control and Compatibility with the USB Dock
With a customisable focus position that can be set on the lens, you can recall a specific point of focus. The lens has two custom modes that can be setup via the Sigma USB Dock that let you customise AF speed, focus driving range as well as stabilisation settings for quick recall. The dock can also be used to update lens firmware and customise autofocus performance.
Compatible with Sigma Teleconverters
If you need even more reach the lens can be combined with Sigma teleconverters like the 1.4x TC-1401 that produces a 700mm f/5.6 focal length as well as the 2x TC-2001 that can convert the lens to a massive 1000mm f/8 lens.
Durable, Dust and Splash Proof Build
Featuring a durable magnesium alloy barrel, dust and splash-proof construction as well a rubber sealing to protect the mount the lens is designed to perform in tough conditions and is built to last. The lens even features an oil and water-repellent coating on the front element that stops water droplets from ruining your shots.
Carbon Fibre Lens Hood and Brass Bayonet Mount
By using a carbon fibre lens hood the optics of the lens are protected from stray light without adding additional weight. The bayonet mount that attaches the lens to a tripod or monopod is constructed from brass making it more durable for a reliable hold.
Rotating Tripod Ring
A rotating tripod ring with antistatic nickel plating keeps the lens secure during use and features click stops at every 90° that can be de-clicked if required with the dedicated switch. The tripod ring also features sockets so a strap can be attached to limit stress on the camera mount while carrying.
