The Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD G2 Lens is an expansive telephoto-zoom lens suitable for both full-frame and APS-C-sized image sensor DSLR cameras. Designed for ultra-telephoto photography applications like shooting motor racing or sports, the second generation ‘G2’ lens is optimised to handle high resolution DSLRs. The lens incorporates a highly effective vibration compensation control with 3 different modes, fast and precise autofocus, and a handy zoom lock.
The Tamron 150-600 mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD G2 Lens is ideal for enthusiasts and professionals looking for a high quality, versatile ultra-telephoto zoom lens suitable for a variety of needs, including nature and sports photography.
Ultra Telephoto Zoom
The 4x zoom lens offers a 35mm-equivalent focal length range of 150-600mm for a telephoto to super-telephoto perspective, making it suitable for a wide variety of shooting scenarios. When mounted on an APS-C image sensor body, the lens provides an impressive focal length of 225-900mm making it an incredibly versatile choice regardless of sensor size. The lenses extraordinary focal range grants high-performance long-range performance that can fill your frame with distant objects, perfect for capturing close-ups of birds, wildlife, aviation, and sports.
Excellent Resolution and Colour Fidelity
A complex optical construction comprising of 21 elements in 13 groups delivers exceptionally high resolution and outstanding sharpness. Three LD (Low-Dispersion) lens elements are effectively deployed to correct axial and transverse chromatic aberrations and colour fringing, giving superior clarity and colour fidelity throughout the zoom range.
Anti-Reflection Lens Coating
The lens employs anti-reflection coating technologies including Tamron’s eBAND (Extended Bandwidth and Angular-Dependency) coating and BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) coating to improve light transmission and suppress internal reflections, including light reflected off the camera’s image sensor. These multiple layer nano-coatings eliminate ghosting and flare from reflected light, allowing you to take high quality shots in back-lit conditions and delivering high contrast images even when shooting in the sun.
Outstanding Vibration Compensation
The lens offers up to 4.5 stops of vibration compensation that is customisable with three convenient modes to let you choose the optimum VC performance for your shooting scenario:
VC Mode 1 is the standard mode that stabilises the viewfinder image, to make composition more steady and also stabilises the image captured once you press the shutter.
VC Mode 2 is designed for use with a monopod or tripod and delivers excellent results for panning shots.
VC Mode 3 prioritises the stabilisation of captured images over the viewfinder image, making composition not as steady as VC Mode 1 but in turn maximising stabilisation performance for important shots.
Use of these VC modes in conjunction with the highly effective image stabilisation mechanism minimises image blurring caused by camera shake, allowing handheld shooting to produce perfect results, even when using slow shutter speeds in low-light conditions.
High Speed Auto Focus with Ultrasonic Silent Drive
Equipped with the whisper-silent Ultrasonic Silent Drive ring-type motor, the Tamron SP 150-600mm F/5-6.3 Di VC USD G2 Lens delivers excellent responsiveness and precision focus control. It boasts accurate high-speed focus to easily capture sharp images even when you subject is moving. When shooting in the AF mode, the full-time manual focus override allows you to instantaneously fine tune focusing manually without having to switch between modes so you can adjust your focus with professional accuracy.
Flex Zoom Lock
The lens has a new flex zoom lock mechanism which allows instant locking of the zoom at any focal length by simply sliding the zoom ring forward, giving you confidence to lock in your focal length so you can focus on composing the shot without any risk of the barrel extending. The zoom lock also features a switch to secure the lens in its retracted position to prevent any lens creep during transport.
Electronic Aperture Control
An electromagnetic diaphragm system uses electric pulse signals to accurately control diaphragm and aperture settings. This feature ensures consistent performance when shooting continuously at high rates. Electronic aperture control is only available for cameras compatible with the electromagnetic diaphragm.
The front surface of the lens element is coated with a protective fluorine compound. This water and oil repellent coating helps keep your lens in pristine condition by ensuring that the front element can be easily wiped clean. This makes the lens less vulnerable to the damaging effects of dirt, dust, moisture and fingerprints so you can be confident it will be able to perform for many years to come.
Lightweight Arca-Type Compatible Tripod Collar
An Arca-Swiss style tripod interface facilitates quick mounting of the lens over a tripod or a monopod for enhanced stability and ease of use. Fabricated with a magnesium alloy, the removable and rotating tripod mount is light to carry and features a textured surface like the lenses zoom and focus rings to guarantee a comfortable grip.
Moisture Resistant Construction
Leak-proof seals throughout the lens barrel help prevent moisture from penetrating into the lens, protecting the lens when your shooting outdoors in less than ideal conditions. With a durable metal construction, the lens is hardy, rugged and also features an ergonomic shape for improved handling over long periods.
With a minimum focussing distance of 2.2m the lens is capable of tele-macro photography. It also has easy to read characters and an enlarged window over the distance scale so you can stay on top of the lenses settings.
Expanded Customisation Options
The lens is compatible with an optional TAP-in Console accessory which is used to update lens firmware and make fine adjustments to the autofocus and VC. The lens is also compatible with two exclusively designed tele-converters to match the optics of the SP 150-600mm G2, which offer 1.4x and 2.0x magnification, providing a potential maximum zoom range up to 1200mm on a full frame sensor.
