The GoPro MISSION 1 PRO Compact Cinema Camera expands the MISSION series with higher frame rates and more advanced recording modes aimed at professional creators who work with action cameras for their production workflows. It combines a 50MP 1-inch sensor with the GP3 processor, enabling 8K30 Open Gate capture alongside higher-performance modes including 8K60 and 4K240 recording.

Compared to the standard MISSION 1, this PRO version focuses more heavily on high frame rate flexibility and maximum recording performance, making it more suitable for commercial productions, cinematic slow motion, action filmmaking and advanced editing workflows. The larger sensor improves low-light image quality and dynamic range, while Open Gate recording allows footage to be reframed efficiently for vertical, widescreen and social delivery formats from a single capture. Despite the increased recording capabilities, the body maintains GoPro's compact rugged construction and waterproofing to 20m without requiring a separate housing.

1-Inch Sensor Performance

The MISSION 1 PRO uses a larger 1-inch sensor which captures substantially more light than previous GoPro HERO Black cameras. This improves shadow detail, low-light performance and overall image depth while helping reduce visible noise in difficult lighting conditions.

GP3 Processor

GoPro’s GP3 processor delivers approximately double the pixel processing performance of earlier GoPro systems. This additional processing power enables the camera’s advanced recording modes while also supporting more sophisticated real-time de-noise processing and higher sustained recording performance.

Advanced Recording Modes

In addition to 8K30 Open Gate recording, the PRO version supports higher-end recording formats including 8K60 and 4K240. These modes are particularly relevant for creators producing cinematic slow motion, action sequences and high-resolution commercial content where additional frame rate flexibility is important during editing.

Open Gate Flexibility

Open Gate recording captures a taller 4:3 image area compared to standard widescreen recording formats. This provides more flexibility when cropping footage for social media, vertical content and cinematic widescreen delivery from the same source clip.

Thermal And Runtime Improvements

GoPro has placed significant focus on thermal management and continuous recording performance within the MISSION series. Combined with the GP3 processor and larger Enduro 2 battery system, the camera is intended to maintain longer recording sessions than previous GoPro models while supporting demanding high-resolution workflows.

Rugged Compact Design

Although positioned as a professional compact cinema camera, the MISSION 1 PRO retains GoPro’s established rugged construction and waterproofing. The camera body is waterproof to 20m without a housing, making it practical for outdoor filmmaking, travel productions and challenging environments where larger cinema systems are less suitable.
