Utilizing a newly developed sensor also found in the EOS R6 Mark II, the R8 features a 24.2MP CMOS sensor paired with a DIGIC X processor. Together, this combination provides outstanding stills performance, impressive 4K 60p 10-bit video, and fast autofocus.

Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS II AF in the R8 complements the lens stepping motor, ensuring you can capture a broad range of subjects effectively, tracking them even as they move about the frame. In electronic shutter mode the R8 reaches blistering speeds of up to 40fps, while RAW mode pre-shoots and captures 30fps, helping you get the shot, no matter how fast the subject is moving.

Video can be recorded without a 30 minute clip limit, in beautiful oversampled 4K/60p and as fast as 180fps Full HD for slow motion playback. A new photo / video switch on the body, high refresh rate EVF and large 3-inch LCD confirms that this is an excellent camera and lens kit for hybrid creators joining Canon’s mirrorless system.

When light levels drop, the EOS R8 carries on delivering superb photos and video. Its large full-frame sensor means less digital noise, so the camera can shoot at up to ISO 102,400 (extendable to ISO 204,800). Its Dual Pixel CMOS AF II focusing is sensitive to -6.5EV – that’s about the same as the light of a half-moon.

Weighing just 461g, the EOS R8 is our lightest full-frame mirrorless camera yet, so you can take it to more places, more often.
