GoPro's latest generation action camera, the HERO 12 Black, steps into the spotlight, succeeding the previous Hero11. The newer model capitalises on various novel features and enhancements introduced by its predecessor, which was the former flagship camera from GoPro.

Where the latest generation GoPro HERO12 Black truly shines is beneath the surface. It boasts the ability to double recording times compared to Hero11. Furthermore, its image stabilisation is notably improved with HyperSmooth 6.0 offering a more stable shooting experience with great results whatever activity you’re enjoying.

HERO 12 also introduces fresh elements like vertical video support for TikTok and other vertical channels, reaching up to 4K resolution and 60fps. In standard horizontal mode you can record up to 5.3K video for incredibly detailed movies of everything from holidays in the sun, to bike adventures, windsurfing and anything you can imagine. The compact camera also incorporates 10-bit GP-LOG encoding, benefits from HDR video capabilities and features wireless microphone compatibility.

This extends to the convenience of vlogging and narrating videos, whilst controlling the GoPro through voice commands. It’s also compatible with Apple AirPods or other Bluetooth-based wireless headphones for audio monitoring.

Naturally this version is incredibly tough straight out of the box, so you can take it underwater to 10m (33 feet), whilst the Hydrophobic lens sheds water for crystal clear shots when you’re in the water.

CHOOSE BETWEEN 8-BIT, 10-BIT+ AND LOG ENCODING

You can choose between capturing 8-bit, 10-bit or Log encoding with GP-Log on the HERO12. 10-bit colour delivers enhanced colour depth with over 1 billion colours, for smoother gradations and more realism in your videos, while 8-bit offers smaller file sizes.

Advanced users can use GP-Log to get more detail in their footage while making necessary colour adjustments in post-production.

TIMECODE SYNC

If you have more than one GoPro12 camera, you can sync them with the exact same timecode to make multi-camera editing a lot easier. This feature works with Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premier and other editing software to further streamline post-production.

BLUETOOTH AUDIO CONNECTIVITY

Bluetooth audio lets you wirelessly connect HERO12 Black to compatible devices. Vloggers will be able connect to a wireless external microphone for enhanced audio when narrating a scene or conducting interviews. By connecting to your wireless earbuds, your GoPro will be able to hear your voice commands in noisy settings or when it’s mounted out of earshot. With three time-lapse and photo modes you can stay creative after dark. Star Trails uses the Earth’s rotation and the stars to capture beautiful light trails across the night sky. Light Painting lets you create brilliant brush stroke effects with moving light. Vehicle Light Trails uses night-time traffic to record stunning light trail shots.

NEW INTERVAL PHOTO WITH POWER TOOLS

The new interval photo feature can be set to capture all the action by snapping photos at fixed intervals while you stay focused on your favourite activities. HindSight captures up to 30 seconds of footage before you start recording, even if you press the shutter too late, you’ll still get the shot. There’s also Scheduled Capture, which lets you set your GoPro to turn itself on and capture a shot up to 24 hours in advance, and Duration Capture, which makes it easy to capture video clips from 15 seconds to 3 hours long.

You can tweak the automatic highlight videos created by the app or make your own videos from scratch. You also have the flexibility to change digital lenses in your photos and videos after recording. Switch from the ultra immersive HyperView lens to SuperView, wide or linear to create exactly the shot you want, then turn it into an extra-tall social post or go widescreen for YouTube.
