Improved processing, greater versatility, but familiar in design, the Nikon Z 7II takes everything that was great from the original and ups its capabilities even more. Sporting a high-resolution 45.7MP FX-format BSI CMOS sensor and dual EXPEED 6 image processors, the Z 7II is clearly aimed at the detail-obsessed image-maker.
Specially designed for full-frame “mirrorless” cameras, the Z-mount enables the use of more compact and ultra-wide-angle lenses, and also increases the amount of light reaching the sensor, especially at the edges. Nikon F lenses are attached to the Nikon Z7 via an FTZ adapter, allowing the entire fleet of 90 Nikkor F lenses to be used while maintaining autofocus, exposure control and stabilization.
More power, greater detail - With twin EXPEED processors at its heart, the Z 7II effortlessly meets the challenge of creating high-resolution full-frame images. You’ll benefit from greater dynamic range and cleaner performance across the wide ISO range. You’ll be able focus with absolute tenacity—even when shooting in extreme low light.
Stunning dynamic range - Textures, patterns, colours. The Z 7II delivers incredible dynamic range at both high and low ISO values. Tonal gradations are exceptionally smooth and skin tones are reproduced with stunning accuracy. The ability to shoot video at resolutions up to 4K/60p lets you portray dynamic scenes in mesmerising detail.
Precise tracking - Even small subjects can be tracked with precision. You can toggle tracking on and off via the shutter release or assign tracking to a camera or lens Fn button.
People and animals - Eye-Detection AF locks on to people’s eyes. Animal-Detection AF does the same for cats and dogs. Reliably focus on your subject’s eyes whether shooting stills or video.
A viewfinder that keeps up - The high-definition 3690k-dot electronic viewfinder (EVF) gives you a smooth, uninterrupted view even when shooting at high speed. The high refresh rate greatly reduces blackout, so you’ll never lose sight of what’s in front of you.
Displays that adapt to you - Customisable info displays let you quickly adjust settings, or you can choose to disable the info display completely when shooting stills. If you flip out the monitor to shoot in Live View, the EVF automatically turns off to save power.
Maximum sharpness at small apertures - Creating images with deep depth of field? The Z 7II counters the diffraction that can occur when you stop down a lens. From landscapes to cityscapes, you can shoot at smaller apertures without worrying about loss of definition.
Tough doesn’t begin to describe it - Rough terrain, harsh weather conditions, or on-set fog machines—the Z 7II doesn’t flinch. This mirrorless camera is forged from super-strong yet lightweight magnesium alloy and fully sealed against dust, dirt, and moisture. Go wherever your ideas take you and shoot comfortably when you get there.
More shots per charge - The Z 7II works in the most power‑efficient way possible and its new battery gives you more shots per charge. There’s also a power-saving mode for when you need it.
Power on - For long shoots, you can provide constant power to your camera (and even charge the battery) via a USB Type-C cable. Ideal if you’re shooting timelapse sequences.
Nikon’s ever-evolving SnapBridge app now lets you update your camera’s firmware via your smart device. You can also use the app to shoot stills and video remotely. Or to filter and share JPEGs or RAW files to any smart device or computer: you can add hashtags and copyright info right from the app.
Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-120mm f/4 S Lens
A truly versatile everyday lens, the NIKKOR Z 24-120mm f/4 S, from Nikon, is a wide-angle to short-telephoto zoom covering an extremely useful range of focal lengths to benefit a variety of applications from landscape to portraiture. The constant f/4 maximum aperture offers consistent performance throughout the zoom range and the lens features an advanced optical design for high sharpness and clarity. As a go-to lens for a majority of needs, this lens also sports a relatively compact and lightweight design.
- Featuring a combination of three ED elements, one aspherical ED element, and three aspherical elements, both chromatic and spherical aberrations are effectively eliminated throughout the zoom range for notable sharpness and clarity.
- ARNEO and Nano Crystal Coats are used to prevent ghosting, reflections, and flare in order to realize improved contrast and clarity when working in strong lighting and backlit conditions. The Nano Crystal Coat controls incidental light from a diagonal direction while the ARNEO Coat controls incidental light from a vertical direction.
- Multi-focus system incorporates two separate AF drive units, which are synchronized, to deliver especially fast and accurate focusing throughout the zoom range. This system uses stepping motors, which offer impressively smooth and quiet autofocus performance that is well-suited to both stills and video applications.
- Full-time manual focus override is also possible and an internal focusing design is used, where only the internal lens groups are moved during focusing, to maintain the overall length of the lens during use and to promote faster focusing speeds.
- Dedicated manual focus ring at the rear of the lens for tactile and precise control over the focus position.
- Minimum focusing distance of 1.1', along with a maximum magnification of 0.39x, benefits working with close-up subjects.
Handling and Design
- Programmable Control Ring can be used to control aperture, ISO, or exposure compensation.
- Assignable L.Fn button works in conjunction with camera-based Fn buttons to provide seamless points for quickly changing exposure settings and other functions.
- Dust- and moisture-resistant lens barrel, along with a front fluorine coating, benefits the lens' use in inclement conditions.
